GPSC has collaborated with PEA to launch a project on battery energy storage system technologies to be used in the power grid of Provincial Electricity Authority. Meanwhile, the project is ready to be further extended with an attempt to create other relevant business opportunities within a period of 3 years’ operation framework.

On 10 May 2022, Mrs. Rosaya Teinwan, Executive Vice President - Business Development of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited or GPSC, the innovative power flagship of PTT Group, and Mr. Mongkol Treekijjanon, Deputy Governor (Business and Marketing) of Provincial Electricity Authority or PEA, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in order to jointly develop a project on battery energy storage system technologies for use in the power grid of Provincial Electricity Authority, including further extension plans that could bring about other relevant business opportunities. The objective thereof is to improve the infrastructure necessary for the power grid management system of Provincial Electricity Authority.

“Both organizations are well prepared to develop the battery energy storage system for use in the power grid of Provincial Electricity Authority. These technologies are considered such modernized systems that they can manage electric power efficiently; and at the meantime, this can help reduce greenhouse gas emission into the atmosphere as well. This is in compliance with the management concepts of both organizations, and it is regarded as a new and modern approach towards the cleaner energy”, said Mrs. Rosaya Teinwan, Executive Vice President - Business Development of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited.

The cooperation between GPSC and PEA will cover the fields of techniques, human resources, management, data analysis, summary of the project study and business collaborations, now and in the future. There will be studies and development of such energy storage system so that it contains appropriate properties that satisfy the needs of usage. Not only that, it must be safe and compliance to the power grid standards of PEA too.

The studies herein will focus on the development of infrastructure necessary for the power grid management system of Provincial Electricity Authority. Moreover, some technologies of energy storage system, e.g., SemiSolid Battery Technology, Second-life EV battery Technology, Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Technology and other appropriate battery energy storage system technologies shall be applied in the power grid system. The other emphasis is placed on the study and the development of investment models between GPSC and PEA, as well as the affiliates of both organizations. This is to increase the potential and stability of the service of the current power grid system, to support the other forms of service businesses such as the development of distribution systems for local electricity users, to become the comprehensive electrical service providers and to increase the capacity of service provision according to the scope of this mutual project. Thereby, the working group will be established for the implementation of this project.
