GPSC has got an auspicious time to conduct the piling work for the construction of a new power plant, GLOW SPP 2 Replacement, which is a gas turbine power plant with generating capacity of 98 MW. This power plant is worth of 4,000 million baht and it is aimed to replace the decommissioned power plant of Glow SPP 2 Company Limited on the same area within Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province. The scheduled commercial operation date of this new plant is in 2024 and it is expected that this project can accommodate the country's increasing demand, especially that of the new s-curve industries in the EEC.

Today (25 August 2022), Mr. Worawat Pitayasiri, President and Chief Executive Officer of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited or GPSC, the innovative power flagship of PTT Group, has revealed, while presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony of GLOW SPP 2 Replacement or GSPP2R, that the development of this power plant is intended to replace the existing one of Glow SPP 2 Company Limited, one of GPSC's subsidiaries, because the latter's contract has expired. The new power plant is a type of gas turbine using natural gas as fuel with two units of heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) with a total capacity of 98 MW and 230 tons of steam per hour. The cost of investment of this project is approximately 4,000 million baht and it is located in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province.

"It is expected that the construction of this project will take 2 years and it will have been completed in the second quarter of 2024. So far, the company has renewed the power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) in terms of small power producer (SPP). The scheduled commercial operation date (SCOD) of this new plant is in 2024 with an intention to stabilize the power system of Thailand," said Mr. Worawat.

GPSC realizes the importance of the development and optimization of electricity and steam generation to support the growth of the industrial sector in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate and in Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), including the new s-curve industries which are believed to play an important role in Thailand's economy in the long run. The company is certain that the construction will be completed as planned and it will also bring about the stability of energy system that can respond to the increasing demand of Thailand in the future.

The SPP power plant development under the agreement of SPP Replacement provides GPSC with an advantage concerning the cost of electricity because it is regarded as the construction of a new power plant to replace the old one on the same area, which was decommissioned according to the expiration of the 25-year power purchase agreement. Thanks to the modern technologies, GPSC is still able to maintain the proportion of electricity generation from small power producers or SPPs, which generate efficient electricity and steam in an environmentally friendly manner with competitive prices, leading to the secured power generation system within the country.
