GPSC signs MOU with 10 organizations for the project “Kon Mee Fai Year 2” to encourage sustainable clean energy consumption aimed at reducing CO2 emissions

07 Aug 2024

GPSC has joined hands with the Renewable Energy Industry Club, Federation of Thai Industries (RE-FTI Club) to organize the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the project “Kon Mee Fai Year 2” of 2024 with the 10 qualified organizations on the condition that each organization is required to use the savings from the reduction of electricity costs to develop the communities nearby. This is all to pave ways for the sustainable carbon neutral society in Thailand.

On 7 August 2024, Mrs. Prinda Ma-Imjai, Executive Vice President Corporate Services of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited or GPSC, the innovative power flagship of PTT Group, revealed that GPSC and the Renewable Energy Industry Club, Federation of Thai Industries (RE-FTI Club) organized the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding for the project “Kon Mee Fai Year 2” of 2024 with the 10 qualified organizations, including agencies and non-profit organizations operating especially in the fields of education, public health, natural resources and environment. The project is intended to promote the use of renewable energy to manage the organization in an environmentally friendly manner. This is in consistence with GPSC's main mission to deliver clean energy and provide access to energy for communities and society.

The 10 qualified organizations this year include Giant Freshwater Prawn Defenders Association Group in Phatthalung province, Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center in Rayong Province, Faculty of Public Health, Kasetsart University Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus, Baan Phalad Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital in Phayao Province, Baan Nong Yai School in Chachoengsao Province, Kaset Somboon School in Chaiyaphum Province, Khoon Khwark Pittaya School in Chiang Rai Province, Chachoengsao College of Agriculture and Technology in Chachoengsao Province, Wat Salak Phet School in Trat Province, and Baan Huay Tub Morn School in Rayong Province. These qualified organizations shall receive support from GPSC in terms of solar system installation along with the transfer of knowledge related to the use and maintenance of solar system so that they can achieve efficient energy management. It is expected that the project can deliver the on-grid solar power generation of 100 KW, saving more than 600,000 baht and reducing greenhouse gas emission over 70,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (kgCo2eq) per year.

In addition, the project aims to engage and create a sense of ownership among the organizations, which is a model designated to provide the communities with bodies of knowledge regarding energy conservation. The project also plays an important role to encourage communities and agencies to reduce carbon dioxide emission and create the sustainable carbon neutral society in Thailand. Not only that, the project also motivates the qualified organizations to use their savings to initiate community development projects within their areas, such as career promotion, enhancement of public utilities, establishment of an energy learning center etc.

In reference to the first year of project “Kon Mee Fai” in 2023, the installation of solar system for the 5 qualified organizations has already been completed, and the project can deliver the on-grid solar power generation of 107.46 KW, saving more than 600,000 baht while reducing greenhouse gas emission by 73,387 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (kgCo2eq) per year. Furthermore, saving from the reduced electricity bills in this project has been used to develop communities nearby, i.e., promotion of local food processing career by Ubon Ratchathani University Science Park; Agricultural Innovation Learning Center by Nakhonsawan College of Agriculture and Technology; Drug Rehabilitation Center with Thai Traditional Medicine Treatment by Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine Hospital, Regional Health Office 8, Udon Thani Province; Clean Drinking Water for Communities by the Press Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, and Local Cloth Weaving Training for Students by the Foundation for Environment, Community Enterprise of Nameunsri Cloth Weaving Group, Trang Province.
