Recently, Mr. Sirimet Leephagorn, President and Acting Chief Operating Officer of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC), the innovative power flagship of the PTT Group, together with Mr. Il-Kyung Choi, Executive Vice President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement focuses on conducting a preliminary feasibility study for the development of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology, an advanced innovation developed by KHNP. KHNP is a wholly owned subsidiary of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), South Korea’s largest power producer. Furthermore, KHNP is the sole nuclear power plant operator in the country, boasting a total power generation capacity of over 31 GW (representing 31.5% of South Korea's total capacity), alongside world-class expertise spanning comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), as well as Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services for power plants and energy projects across various countries globally.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in expanding the study of SMR technology to generate clean electricity and steam. Additionally, the partnership explores potential joint investment opportunities between GPSC and KHNP. Both parties are preparing to formulate a strategic business expansion plan for SMR O&M services to enhance operational safety, reliability, and maximum efficiency while building confidence among customers and stakeholders. Furthermore, the collaboration emphasizes capacity building through specialized training programs and seminars within the framework of a joint technical working group, ensuring readiness in knowledge management to support the future growth of nuclear energy technology and sustainable long-term business expansion.
