GPSC pursues its Growth along with PTT Group and Big Win roadmap –initiating high value project in ASEAN, signing MOU with Myanmar for developing a 400-MW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Thanlyin, Myanmar.

Mr. Noppadol Pinsupa, president of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC), Thailand’s one of the leading producers and distributors of electricity, steam and utilities and PTT group’s power flagship, along with its consortium -Marubeni Corporation and EDEN Group- signs an MOU with representatives from the Myanmar government, as the Myanmar government grants the consortium the exclusive rights and necessary supports to conduct feasibility study for the 400-MW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Thanlyin, Myanmar. The project is aimed to enhance the stability of electricity particularly in Yangon areas in which the demand of electricity has been steeply increased both for residence and industrial sectors such as in Thilawa Special Economic Zone and Thanlyin oil refinery improvement project in which PTT group is bidding for.

Mr. Noppadol says “We are honored to gain trust and full support from the Myanmar government in this feasibility study. This project also emphasizes GPSC’s positioning as a leading power business and to grow our businesses along with upstream and downstream businesses of PTT Group. Moreover, it is a part of our BIG WIN strategy, which focuses on large scale projects locally and internationally. The project is expected to be operational by 2020.”

This opportunity is one among other important projects that GPSC has obtained rights from Myanmar government to study and develop. Currently, GPSC has a couple power plants in Myanmar in its development pipeline, with the total capacity expected to be approximately 3,000 MW ranging from clean coal-fired to natural gas combined-cycle power facilities. “GPSC is committed to develop new power plants and utilities projects, both in Thailand and ASEAN countries to fuel the economic development in the region in order to thrive altogether,” concludes Mr. Noppadol.
